Beachfront Hotels on Bluewaters Island: Banyan Tree's Beach

For a beachfront stay on Bluewaters Island, the hotel is Banyan Tree Dubai at Bluewaters, the only beachfront hotel on this page: it sits directly on a private beach of about 500 metres facing the open Gulf, with Ain Dubai behind it and no road between the rooms and the sand. It suits couples and families who want a resort beach that stays calm, with the busy public beach of JBR a footbridge away for a change of scene. The building was Caesars Palace until Banyan Tree took it over in late 2023, so reviews older than that describe a different hotel. Below, I explain which rooms see the sea, how the private and public beaches compare, and when the water is at its best.

Bluewaters is a resort district with a postcode: compact, quiet after dinner and turned toward the water, with the Dubai Marina towers on one side and the open Gulf on the other. A beach stay here runs on foot, from the room to the sand and across the footbridge to JBR, and only turns into taxi time for Downtown or the airport.

Choosing a beachfront stay on Bluewaters

Bluewaters is one of the few places in Dubai where a beachfront hotel really touches the sand: no coastal road, no tram line, just the resort, its beach and the Gulf. Across the channel, JBR offers the public alternative, free and lively.

Banyan Tree Dubai at Bluewaters has about 500 metres of private beach on the Gulf side of the island, with two outdoor pools behind the sand and Alizée running the pool and beach terrace for lunch. The kids' club has its own shaded pool and splash pad, which keeps the main pools calmer. Its 178 rooms and suites range from about 54 to 315 square metres, and guests rate the hotel 9.5 out of 10 across more than 1,000 reviews. That is the difference with many Dubai addresses sold as beachfront, where a road separates the lobby from the water.

The room decides if the beach is in view. Gulf-view categories, such as Serenity Gulf view, look over the private beach and open sea, where the sun sets over the water. Rooms on the other side face the Dubai Marina and JBR towers, which are striking at night but do not show the sand. For a beach holiday, I would book a category whose name states the Gulf view rather than a generic room, and accept that the marina side is the city-lights choice. The spa, renovated in October 2024, adds a Rainforest circuit for the hottest hours.

The free alternative is a short walk. A pedestrian bridge links the island to The Beach at JBR, around 10 to 15 minutes on foot, where the public sand is free and backed by a long promenade of restaurants and The Walk. The Dubai Tram stops at JBR on the landside, but there is no metro on the island. Since 2022, the UAE weekend is Saturday and Sunday, when JBR is at its busiest; the hotel's private beach is the calm option those days. On public beaches, drinking alcohol is not allowed, and swimwear belongs on the sand, not in the malls.

Season matters more than anything for a beach stay here. From November to March, air and sea temperatures allow a full day on the sand, and this is the peak season. From June to September, the sun is strong by 9 am, so beach time moves to early morning and after sunset, and the middle of the day goes to the pool shade or the spa. Rain is rare and falls on a handful of winter days. During Ramadan, the hotel's beach and restaurants keep serving guests, while eating and drinking in public in daylight should be avoided.

A traveler's take

For a beach-first week in Dubai, I book Banyan Tree on Bluewaters in a Gulf-view room, because the sand starts at the resort and no road cuts the walk. I would go between November and March and keep JBR for an evening stroll across the footbridge. I would not book it for a trip built around Downtown or the Burj Khalifa: the island has no metro, and every visit means a taxi along Sheikh Zayed Road. I would also skip a midsummer beach trip here, when the sand is only usable at the edges of the day.

Local tips

  1. 1Book a Gulf-view category at Banyan Tree, such as Serenity Gulf view, if seeing the sea from the balcony matters: the marina side faces towers rather than the beach.
  2. 2Use the hotel's private beach on Saturdays and Sundays, the UAE weekend since 2022, and keep the free JBR beach for weekday mornings, when it is quieter.
  3. 3Walk the footbridge to The Beach at JBR in the late afternoon from October to April: the sand cools, the promenade restaurants open, and the walk back takes about ten minutes.
  4. 4From June to September, swim before 9 am or after sunset and spend midday in the shaded pool area or the spa; the island has little natural shade.
  5. 5Pack a cover-up for walks to the restaurants around Ain Dubai or The Walk: swimwear is for the beach and the pool, not for malls or promenades.
  6. 6Read reviews dated from late 2023 onwards: older ones under the Caesars Palace name describe the hotel before Banyan Tree took over the building.
