Dubai Marina Hotels and Getting to the Airport
Dubai Marina is a canal-side district of towers at the western end of Dubai's coast, beside JBR and the beach, with Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai offshore. It is on the far side of the city from Dubai International Airport, so I would not describe it as near the terminals: the Dubai Metro Red Line links the two end to end, and a taxi follows Sheikh Zayed Road. One, Courtyard by Marriott World Trade Centre, sits much closer to the city centre.
Dubai Marina is a high-rise district built around a long man-made canal, with yachts at their moorings, a waterfront promenade and Dubai Marina Mall at its centre. To the west, JBR and The Walk run along the beach. The Dubai Tram loops through the area and connects with the Red Line of the Dubai Metro on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The coast first, the transfer second
The airport label is generous for Dubai Marina, and it is better to say so plainly. The district is chosen for the water, the promenade, Dubai Marina Mall and the beach at JBR, not for the transfer. If your trip is mostly about the coast, the longer ride to Dubai International Airport is a fair trade. If your stay is a one-night stopover, a hotel nearer the centre or the airport makes more sense, and I explain below which listed hotel fits that need.
JW Marriott Hotel Marina is the strongest hotel on this page, with a guest score of 9.5. It has direct access to Dubai Marina Mall, an infinity pool on level 4 with marina views, a dedicated children's pool and a spa and wellness centre. For travellers arriving after a long flight, that combination is practical: food, shops and a pool are reached without leaving the building, which helps on the first evening. The hotel's appeal is the Marina itself, though, and I would book it for a stay of several days on the coast rather than for a quick night before an early departure from Dubai International Airport.
Crowne Plaza Dubai Marina by IHG offers rooms with marina views, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, five dining outlets, a bar and a sun terrace, and family rooms are available. Its score of 9.0 reflects a solid, all-round hotel for both business and leisure guests. Jumeirah Living Marina Gate, at 9.1, offers residential suites with a balcony, a separate living area and a fully equipped kitchen, plus an infinity pool, a spa and a large fitness centre, less than 1 km from The Walk at JBR. For a long stay that begins or ends with a flight, its suites give room to pack, rest and reorganise before the transfer to the airport.
Courtyard by Marriott World Trade Centre, Dubai, is the hotel on this page best suited to a quick stopover, but it is not in Dubai Marina. Its listing places it 800 metres from the Dubai World Trade Centre, closer to Downtown Dubai and to Dubai International Airport than the Marina is. It has an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, a 24-hour front desk and city views, with a guest score of 9.1 from more than 6,000 reviews. If your priority is a short transfer before a morning flight, I would choose this hotel over the Marina hotels, and accept that the beach is then a taxi ride away from your room.
Getting to the airport from Dubai Marina is simple, even if it is not short. The Dubai Metro Red Line runs from the Marina along Sheikh Zayed Road to the terminals of Dubai International Airport, and the Dubai Tram connects the Marina and JBR with the metro. Taxis use Sheikh Zayed Road, and the journey time depends heavily on traffic at peak hours. Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai South lies closer to the Marina than Dubai International does, so check which airport your flight uses before you plan the transfer and allow a generous margin whichever one it is.
