Business Bay Hotels With a Rooftop Pool, Compared

For a rooftop pool in Business Bay, I would book SLS Dubai for its two infinity pools on the 75th floor or Hyde Hotel Dubai for a rooftop pool that faces the Burj Khalifa. Both suit couples and city-break travellers; families with young children should read the age note on SLS first. Only four of the Business Bay hotels we publish list a rooftop pool, two five-star and two four-star, averaging 8.9 out of 10 across more than 22,000 reviews. That scarcity matters: most towers here put the pool on a podium deck a few floors up, shaded by neighbouring buildings. This page sorts the four by height, view and atmosphere, and says which pool is worth the lift ride.

Business Bay is Dubai's office district on the Dubai Water Canal, south-east of Downtown: glass towers, a canal promenade and hotel roofs that become bars and pool decks at sunset. Its weekend, Saturday and Sunday since 2022, brings Dubai residents to the rooftops.

Which rooftop pool in Business Bay to choose

Business Bay is a district of towers on the Dubai Water Canal, just south-east of Downtown, with no beach and streets built for cars. The pool is where a stay happens for most of the year, and a pool on the roof is the only one that clears the neighbouring towers and gets a full view of the skyline. Height and orientation decide everything: the north-west side looks to the Burj Khalifa.

SLS Dubai Hotel & Residences is the height record of the district. Its two infinity pools sit on the 75th floor, about 325 metres up, and were announced at the opening as the highest pair in the region; the Ciel Spa is a few floors below, on level 69. It scores 9.0 out of 10 across almost 6,800 reviews. One booking listing describes the 75th-floor pool as closed to children under 12, while the hotel runs a kids' club for ages 4 to 12, so families should not plan the rooftop as the children's pool. For couples, it is my first choice.

Hyde Hotel Dubai is the view pick at a lower altitude. The hotel's official site describes a rooftop pool with Burj Khalifa views, and every room has a balcony, still unusual in Business Bay's glass towers. A Japanese restaurant and a bar give the hotel a lifestyle mood rather than a corporate one, and guests rate it 9.2 across more than 4,100 reviews, the best score of the four. I would choose it over SLS for a first visit to Dubai, because the tower in front of you matters more than the height you swim at.

Millennium Central Downtown, on Al Asayel Street a short walk from the Dubai Water Canal, has a rooftop pool deck called La Terrasse, with loungers, umbrellas and drinks facing the Downtown skyline. The four-star hotel scores 8.6 across more than 7,500 reviews, the largest sample of the group, and adds a spa, a fitness centre and an airport shuttle. Citymax Hotel Business Bay, also four-star and rated 8.8, has a rooftop pool with the Aqua Pool Bar. One review warns that its advertised Burj Khalifa view is often partial, so do not book it for the view alone.

Two practical limits apply to every rooftop pool here. From June to September, an unshaded roof is too hot between late morning and mid-afternoon, so the rooftop works best before 10 am and from late afternoon, when the light over Downtown softens. And none of these hotels has a beach: the nearest public beaches are in Jumeirah, a taxi ride away. If the pool is the main reason for the trip and you have children, Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City, with three outdoor pools at ground level, is the more practical choice in the district.

A traveler's take

If the rooftop pool is the reason for the booking, I would choose SLS Dubai for a couple who wants height, with the 75th-floor infinity pools and the spa on level 69. For the Burj Khalifa in front of the water, Hyde Hotel Dubai, where every room also has a balcony. I would not pick Citymax for the view, since it is often partial, and I would not plan a family pool day on the SLS roof. In July and August, I would swim at the top early in the morning and come back for sunset.

Local tips

  1. 1Go up to the SLS Dubai infinity pools on the 75th floor in late afternoon, then down to the Ciel Spa on level 69 while the light over the Burj Khalifa softens.
  2. 2At Hyde Hotel Dubai, ask for an upper-floor room on the Burj Khalifa side: every room has a balcony, so the view from the room complements the rooftop pool.
  3. 3Do not book Citymax Hotel Business Bay for the Burj Khalifa view alone: reviews report that it is often partial or needs a specific angle.
  4. 4Families with children under 12 should plan pool time away from the SLS roof, which a booking listing describes as closed to them; the hotel's kids' club takes ages 4 to 12.
  5. 5In July and August, swim on any of these roofs before 10 am or after 5 pm: unshaded decks heat up fast, and the loungers burn at midday.
  6. 6Combine the rooftop with the Dubai Water Canal promenade after sunset; Millennium Central Downtown is a short walk from the water.
